return/cancellation policy
Return Policy
All of our interior design surfboards are made to order, handcrafted just for you. Because each piece is custom-made from start to finish, all sales are final.
We know things happen and minds can change. If you need to cancel your order, please reach out within 24 hours of placing it. After that window, cancellations or refunds are not guaranteed and are only approved in very rare situations.
If a Cancellation or Return Is Approved
If we’re able to approve a cancellation or return, here’s what to expect:
Shipping costs are non-refundable
Return shipping is the responsibility of the customer
A 10% restocking fee will be deducted to help cover non-refundable payment processing fees and other costs we’ve already taken on to get your order rolling
Quick Heads-Up About Payment Fees
Buyers, please be aware: If you paid using PayPal, Shopify Payments, or Amazon Pay, their processing fees (about 5%) are non-refundable. These platforms keep their fees no matter what, and they don’t return them to us.
Because those fees are charged instantly, there may be times when we’re unable to approve a cancellation—even if it’s requested shortly after checkout.
By placing your order, you’re agreeing to this return policy. If you have any questions before purchasing, feel free to reach out—we’re always happy to help you make sure it’s the right wave for you.
Thanks for understanding and for supporting handmade, made-to-order coastal design 🌴
Production time
Every Moonlight Bay Co. board is made to order in our Wilmington studio—no factories, no mass production, just real hands making real art.
Because each piece is handcrafted, our production time flows with the tide and depends on our current order load. On average, production takes 35–45 business days.
Payment is due in full before your board paddles into production.
Since everything we make is done by hand, sometimes things happen along the way that can slow the process a bit. We’re always chasing quality over speed, and we promise the extra time is worth the wait.
Got a must-have-by date or need to rush your order? Shoot us an email before ordering and we’ll let you know if we can make it happen.
You can check our current production time estimate anytime—it’s listed in the bottom right corner of every page on our website. Always a good idea to peek before you checkout.
A Few Things to Know
We can’t cancel orders after 24 hours if you need your board sooner than our posted production time.
We don’t offer cancellations or refunds if production runs past the estimate—unless you’ve paid for rush production and we miss the agreed deadline.
Thanks for riding the wave with us and supporting handmade, slow-made coastal art 🌴
Potential shipping damage
We pack every order like it’s headed out to catch the perfect wave—but once it leaves our hands, sometimes the shipping gods have other plans. While damage during transit is rare, it can happen, and here’s what you need to know just in case.
If your item arrives damaged, you MUST email us within 7 days of delivery. No exceptions. Damage claims submitted after 7 days will not be accepted.
🚨 Do NOT throw anything away!
You must keep all original packaging and packing materials until the claim is fully approved. If any packing materials are discarded, we cannot file a claim, and unfortunately, you’ll be stuck with the damaged item.
To get the process rolling, we’ll need:
Several clear photos of the damaged item
Several photos of the box and packing materials
A Few Important Things to Know
moonlight bay co. is not responsible for lost or damaged shipments, but we will file a claim with the shipping carrier on your behalf for repair, replacement, or refund, depending on the situation.
Small imperfections in paint or epoxy are totally normal and part of the handmade process—they do not affect the beauty or integrity of the board.
The back of our surfboards is sealed with a thin protective layer and may appear unfinished. It can show light paint marks, epoxy prints, sanding marks, or other small imperfections. This is not considered damage.
We pour all the extra love and finish work into the front of the board. If the back of your surfboard will be visible, please contact us before ordering so we can chat options.
One Last Thing
We’re a small art studio, not a big-box brand. When something is lost or damaged during shipping, we can’t afford to just write it off. That’s why holding the shipping company responsible for their mishandling is a must—and why following the steps above is so important.
Thanks for understanding, for working with us, and for supporting handmade coastal art 🌊🤙
Hanging your items
Every board and sign comes with hanging hardware included for the back of your piece. We leave it uninstalled so you can dial in the perfect angle—straight, tilted, or whatever suits your space and your vibe.
Hanging your art is a lot like hanging a picture frame, but once you grab the drill, you’re officially the captain of this ship. We’re not responsible for how your piece is hung, and installation is done at your own risk.
For a solid, stress-free hang, we highly recommend using heavy-duty wall anchors (not included) along with the hardware we provide. Improper hanging or installation = not our jam, and we can’t be responsible if things go sideways.
Sun Happens ☀️ (But Too Much Is a Bummer)
We suggest keeping your surfboard art out of areas with lots of direct or indirect sunlight. UV rays love to fade beautiful things.
If your board will be catching any UV rays at all, we strongly recommend choosing our weatherproofing option to help extend the life of your piece and keep it looking fresh and beachy.
Hang smart, hang safe, and give your board the love it deserves 🤙🌊
